Problem
Problem là danh từ đếm được, dùng để diễn tả việc gì đó mang lại phiền toái, khó khăn cần giải quyết. Khi nói problem, thường sẽ cần solution (giải pháp).
Ví dụ: I have a problem with my phone (Điện thoại của tớ có trục trặc).
There’s a problem with the Internet connection (Có vấn đề với kết nối internet).
Trouble
Trouble là sự quấy rầy, sự khó khăn, hay phiền muộn gây căng thẳng. Nó là danh từ không đếm được, vì vậy không nên sử dụng mạo từ (a, an hoặc the) trước trouble. Nhưng lại có thể nói “some trouble”. Ngoài ra, trouble còn là động từ.
Ví dụ: I’ve had similar trouble with this car before. (Tôi có vấn đề tương tự với chiếc xe này trước đó).
I am in trouble with him.(Tôi có vấn đề với anh ta).
I’m so sorry to cause so much trouble for you guys.(Tôi rất tiếc vì gây ra nhiều vấn đề cho các bạn).
Issue
Issue là danh từ đếm được. Xét về độ nghiêm trọng, issue mang nghĩa nhẹ hơn problem. Issue có thể dùng với các vấn đề trong công việc, xã hội… vì nét nghĩa của issue ám chỉ những quyết định (decisions) không đúng đắn và sự bất đồng.
Có thể nói Social issues (vấn đề xã hội) và political issues (những vấn đề chính trị). Chứ không nên nói social problems.
Ví dụ: Mary still has some issues with her colleague. (Mary vẫn không hòa hợp với đồng nghiệp của cô).
